Gilbert Polar Ice - Sabers vs Leafs
Monday I stopped in to catch another hockey match and cool off at Polar Ice Gilbert. This time the teams playing were from the Mite age group made up of 7-9 year olds. It was the Sabers vs Leafs. I don't know much about hockey but on the backs of the uniforms were a lot of names that sounded like hockey names. Here are a few… Warman, Benzing, Gigliano, Gaul, Kunkel, Narvaez, Cavinder, Checani, Kampsen, Silvasti, Warman, Benson, Bucci, Gagliano, Membrila, Powell, Evahnekko, Rucka, Field, fowler, Paxson, Sinclair. To me they just sound like hockey names and that probably explains why these kids are so good.
There were several players that had this game figured out even more than the others with hockey names. They took control of the puck when it was anywhere near them. It was fun to watch these little guys and gals. They play much better than I would ever have imagined for seven, eight, and nine year olds.
And the added bonus… it was cold inside!
Here are some action shots. There are many more pictures from this match on my website HERE.

When I'm not photographing sports, I like to get out and look for interesting things to capture. Basically I shoot what catches my eye. You can see more of my work at www.azdewphoto.com.

Lady's Slipper - Pedilanthus Macrocarpus
Interesting Bloom
This flower is on a Succulent plant we have in our back yard. It has been blooming the past few weeks. This plant is nicknamed Desert Bamboo, Slipper Plant, and Lady's Slipper. My Internet research tells me its true name is Pedilanthus macrocarpus.
This specimen has grown from a single stem (that may or may not have been broken off of a plant at a local movie theater by a member of my family that I am married to) into quite a specimen. It's growing in a large pot under a shade tree in our back yard. It has these interesting flowers that I couldn't resist snapping a few shots of the other day. I’ll try to get a shot of the whole plant to get a sense of the scale of these flowers.
A friend posted a comment on my Flickr site that this plant reminds him of Medusa. Now i see the Medusa and her hair of snakes too... every time I look at it.

Squirt Hockey - Stampede vs Musketeers at Polar Ice Gilbert
This week I took in another hockey match at Polar Ice Gilbert, in Arizona. The last one I posted about Here. This time the teams were in the "Squirt" age group. I understand the squirt's are 9-11 years old with some younger players mixed in. Really good young players, I might add. I watched the Stampede take on the Musketeers. Two talented hockey Teams and like last time it was a great way to get out of the 100° heat!
Additional pictures from the Stampede and Musketeers match are posted on my website: azdewphoto.com

High School Passing League 7 on 7
High School Passing League 7 on 7 at Mesa High School. I followed the Gilbert Tigers around as they competed against Tempe, Williams Field, Mesa High, Red Mountain. Its great to see these young athletes playing hard and displaying amazing talent. The added bonus for the afternoon was the breeze that made the 106 degree temperatures bearable. As they say... Its a dry heat.
More pictures from the passing league can be found at azdewphoto.com.

Hockey in the Desert – Mite Development League at Polar Ice Gilbert
ICE is Much Cooler than a Baseball Field
This summer just like every summer it has been well over 100 degrees here in Gilbert Arizona. Yesterday I was driving past the Polar Ice facility and remembered how cool it was inside. I grabbed my camera and went in to see if there was a hockey game going on. I found the "Fire" was taking on the "Bruins" in a 2013 Mite Development League game. Mites from what I learned are age 6 through 8 years old. I found it amazing how well they skated and could handle the puck. They are great little athletes and played to a 6 - 6 tie with the drama of a last second breakaway goal to tie it up.
It was a nice way to spend an hour cooling off. Here are a few images from the game. I also uploaded many more images HERE.

Jodan and Niki - Married!
Jordan and Niki Burr (my daughter)!
Well they officially are married and have started a journey through life together. It was a wonderful wedding in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was a bit warm when they exited the temple. Just as you would expect on a June afternoon in Mesa Arizona. Everyone survived and we had a great reception that night. Notice the Captain America on Jodan's boutonniere. They are Super Hero and Dr Who fans. My boutonniere had Wolverine on it.
This is a picture a few days before they were married. It made the day of the wedding a little less chaotic and allowed us to get some nice bride and groom pictures without being rushed. More Pic's Here

Mesa Arizona LDS Temple - Panorama - Photomerge CS5
I stopped by the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple today. This is a series of 9 handheld images merged together using photomerge in Photoshop CS5. It does an amazing job stitching the images together. No effort at all on my part other than opening the files and selecting photomerge. Then a little crop to clean up the edges. Finished size is 18539x4754.

Full House Again
They go and they return...
All our children will be home this week.
Our three youngest are in this picture. On the left, Niki is home from school in Thatcher AZ, and is getting married Saturday (The reason everyone is gathering). Angela will be a senior in HS next year, and Paige is returning from her 6 month trip to Saint Petersburg Russia.
Our oldest, Whitney flies in today from Ogden UT, and Kyle is recently home from his 10 day trip to Washington/Oregon.
The house will be full again. At least for a little while... And we like it!
